Movie Review: Scream 7

This is my very honest review of Scream 7. I am going to do the best I can without spoilers because that's a little harder this time around. I honestly thought the reveal was weak, and the notice was dumb (yet again). I thought the kill count was high again, so that's a plus since 6 was famous for that. None of the new characters really stood out for me this time around (yes, even Tatum - although, Isabel was a great addition). There was a cast member that was said to be in Scream 7 that we never saw. My overall rating is 3.5 out of 5.

Movie Review: Freakier Friday

 

Was it better than the original? No way. Was it a worthy sequel? Of course. It's nice to see Lindsay Lohan back on the big screen. I liked that the original cast came back to be in the new movie. I am disappointed that Jake wasn't the dad of Harper; that would've made the movie more interesting. I thought the new girls did a pretty good job. I really liked the psychic character, and certain special cameos. Overall I give the movie 3.5 out of 5.

Movie Review: I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025)

 

Obviously my opinion of the original cast is slightly biased, BUT I do think this movie was worthy of the franchise name. I think the new cast bring a lot to the table. It was nice to see JLH back on the big screen because it's been quite awhile. I didn't really like that it didn't create its own storyline. Once again there was an accident and they made a pact (that's not a spoiler). I will say that I didn't see the ending coming at all, and they changed it up with the killer AND the survivors. I didn't like the motive and thought it was from left field. My fave new character was probably Tyler. The cameos are top notch. You definitely need to stay for the end credits. They tried to capitalize on the luck of the "Scream reboots" and I'm not sure if that was wise or not. My overall rating is 4.5 out of 5

Movie Review: Barbie

 

I personally thought it was great! It has a great message, but also had a great sense of humor. The movie has a serious message, but delivers it with a lot of heart. Margot Robbie is believable playing everyone's favorite doll, and Ryan Gosling really makes you feel bad for Ken. Will Ferrell and Kate McKinnon are always fantastic. The speech given  near the end is gold. There are always quite a few cameos.  My final rating is 5 stars.

Movie Review: Scream (2022)

 

What can I say? I personally think that in 10 years they could've made a much better movie - especially for the big 25th anniversary. I would've stopped at Scream 4 (and Wes Craven). I figured out who the newest Ghostface was pretty early on, and it was kinda ruined after that. My generation grew up with this franchise, and I would rank this with Scream 3 (which had the same issue as far as Ghostface goes). I also thought Ghostface's reasoning was pretty weak this time around. One positive is that I do like the Sam character, and it has the usual humor that the franchise is known for. The new twist at the beginning is a nice touch too. Do I recommend it? Not really. Do I think fans of the franchise should watch it? Yes. Do I think it is a good movie by itself? Yes. My rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Movie Review: The Suicide Squad

 

I personally found it funny, but it also had some weird stuff that I didn't really like. Some of the characters were better than the first movie, but some other characters were missed. I thought the story jumped around too much, and it sometimes got too confusing. Margot Robbie is always worth watching play Harley Quinn, but the other standout here was John Cena as Peacemaker. Viola Davis and Joel Kinnaman also return from the 2016 film. My overall review is that it is definitely worth seeing, and I give it 4.5 out of 5 (mostly due to the ridiculous end scene).

Movie Review: Home Again

I have been a Reese Witherspoon since the 90s, but this is yet another poor movie in her career. The only good part about this movie was that it had a happy ending, the rest was mediocre. She has been in kind of a funk since "Water for Elephants", but she still remains one of my favorite actresses. The movie itself is about a mother of two turning 40, and coming back to her childhood home; if that already wasn't enough to deal with, she also has an ex and meets some total strangers that end up living in her house. I believe they had good intentions with this movie, but just couldn't deliver. Spoiler Alert: Candice Bergen plays her mother (she played her fiance's mother in "Sweet Home Alabama"). It was pretty much a bunch of people we haven't heard of in a movie with Reese Witherspoon

My overall Rating is 2.5 out of 5

Movie Review: Suicide Squad

(Please keep in mind that this review was written by someone that has never read the comic books, or knew anything about the group before seeing this movie)

I went into the movie theater not really sure what to expect. Not only did I not know much about the story, but I also read mixed reviews. I think the two standouts were definitely Will Smith (Deadshot) and Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn). The rest of the cast was pretty awesome too though. Adam Beach kinda got screwed in casting, but so did Jared Leto, so..... For those of you that don't know the story: the baddest of the bad guys are asked to team up to help save the world from an even worse evil force. They break the barriers between good and evil, and go through some rough stuff together. I give the movie a 4 overall because I think a certain part of the story was left unexplained, and it made it confusing. By the way, I wouldn't recommend taking your kids to go see it, but there were a lot of kids there today.....

Movie Review: Vacation

I know what you are thinking: another remake, really?

Technically it isn't a remake, it is more of a sequel. While the original "Vacation" movie was something that I would still watch with my kids today, this new version is NOT KID FRIENDLY AT ALL. It is VERY FUNNY though, and you will laugh your butts off at some parts.

Ed Helms (Hangover Trilogy) plays Rusty Griswold whose fave memory is going on a family trip with his parents and his sister 30 years ago. His two sons don't get along, so he decides it would be great for the family to go on a "real vacation". Of course they run into plenty of problems on the way, and of course they are all funny to the movie-goer. Christina Applegate plays his wife, Leslie Mann plays his sister (Audrey), and Chris Hemsworth plays his brother-in-law. There are a few other worthy cameos, but I don't want to ruin the surprise. If you are looking for some laughs, definitely go check it out, but if you are looking for a family-friendly movie, go see "Minions" or even "Ant-Man". This movie lives up to its R rating, but doesn't even come close to the 80's classic film. My opinion, save your money and just rent the original "Vacation". Overall impression, 2.5 out of 5 stars - it tried it's hardest, but missed terribly.

Movie Review: Home

This family friendly film might get you to the theater because you have kids, or maybe it's the all star cast, (or maybe even this review), but it's definitely worth the trip!

Dreamworks latest project stars Jim Parsons as the alien, Oh, who you might say is one of a kind and doesn't seem to fit in with this fellow aliens. After he is banned by his kind for making a mistake, he becomes a fugitive that is on the run. While he is on the run, he meets Tip (a 7th grade girl voiced by Rihanna), and her cat (Pig) who are searching for Tip's mom (they got separated when the aliens took over the planet). Jennifer Lopez plays the mom, Steve Martin plays the captain. It's a cute story, but also has some moments to make you really laugh out loud. I will give it 4 out of 5 stars

Movie Review: Carrie

I wish I could say that it lives up to it's legendary predecessor, but it sadly doesn't come close. I thought the casting was okay, but Chloe Moretz was definitely the standout in this film. I thought she did a phenomenal job in the lead role. Julianne Moore did a good job as the mother, but it was weird seeing her playing such a crazy character. I thought Judy Greer did a great job as the gym teacher, Tommy Ross was very charming and likeable, and I thought the chick that played Chris (Portia Doubleday) did a great job too. The rest of the cast were just so-so in my opinion. I also thought the beginning of the movie was extremely dumb and unbelievable. I wouldn't call this movie a horror movie, but MAYBE a thriller at best. I give it 3 and a half stars for a good effort (and casting Ms. Moore!).

Movie Review: Spring Breakers

What can I really say about it except that I was extremely disappointed. I thought it had way more potential with the casting choice, and now I can see why Emma Roberts backed out. I can only hope that it doesn't ruin Selena Gomez' career as far as more grown up roles goes. I honestly went to go see it for Vanessa Hudgens alone, and she didn't really disappoint me as much as the others did. My opinion: Save yourself the money and skip this train wreck of a movie. I give it 1.5 stars for the great casting, and 1 star for the nudity, so 2.5 out of 5 all together....and even that is being generous.

Movie Review: The Lucky One

I am a sucker for a good love story. I have wanted to see this movie since I first heard about it last summer, and it didn't disappoint. I will be completely honest, I never read the book (I usually do my research), but I thought the movie was superb and my mom (who reads all of Nicholas Sparks' books) said it followed with the story nicely. For those of you that are lost, it is about a Marine named Logan who finds a picture of a beautiful woman in the middle of a war zone, and it brings him luck. The movie stars Zac Efron, Taylor Schilling, and Blythe Danner. This movie has probably climbed onto the chart of my fave "Nicholas Sparks movies", and I give it a 3.5 out of 5!

Movie Review: The Vow

First off, it was destined to be a hit (in my mind) when I found out it starred Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum (two of my favorite actors). Let me just say right now that it exceeded my expectations. It is based on a true story, so it already captures your heart from knowing that. Channing and Rachel play a Newlywed couple that seem to have the perfect marriage, but then an unfortunately accident changes everything and she can't remember their life together at all. He spends the entire movie trying to win her heart back and remind her of what they have. I can't tell you if he succeeds or not, but I can say that you will definitely enjoy watching him try. Everyone in the world wants this kind of relationship! I give this movie a 4.5 out of 5 - absolutely superb!

Movie Review: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

Going into the movie, I had heard that it was even better than the first one....I don't agree. One thing they both had in common was that they were funny, had plenty of action, and were hard to follow at some parts. I don't think this movie had enough Rachel McAdams, but I did like it for the most part. Once again Holmes and Watson get into a sticky situation, and they need to solve the case to get out of it. I didn't think the villain was as believable this time around - I mean, as a villain. He was definitely evil, but his "main job" just made it really stupid. I give this movie 3.5 out of 5.

Movie Review: New Years Eve

So all I have heard about this movie since first seeing the trailer many months ago was about how it was a "huge waste of good talent". Well, I wanted to decide for myself, so I went today (opening day). I really enjoyed it! It kind of started off dull, and I started wondering why I had paid all that money, but then it got a lot better. Hilary Swank is the first character we meet, and she begins our movie narration. The movie doesn't end how I was expecting it to at all (I guess that is the whole point of a good movie). Not only does it have an all-star cast that includes Zac Efron, Michelle Pfeiffer, Ashton Kutcher, Lea Michele, Ludacris, Josh Duhamel, Halle Berry, Katherine Heigl, Jessica Biel, Seth Meyers (etc), but it also has many cameos and a lot of surprises. I give this movie a 3 out of 5.

Movie Review: Crazy, Stupid, Love

I will be honest; I actually went to see this movie because of Julianne Moore and Emma Stone, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The cast as a whole was great and there was so much chemistry between the four main characters. This movie was also very funny, and the twist near the end was kept in the dark until it actually happened - so many of these kinds of movies are so predictable and just blah. The whole part with the babysitter and the kid just tops it all off. I give this movie 4 out of 5 stars.
